Ontario opened Canada’s first competitive, privately operated online casino market in April 2022. The AGCO regulates it and iGaming Ontario conducts and manages it. The minimum age is 19.
Alberta became Canada’s second open market on 13 July 2026, under the iGaming Alberta Act. AGLC regulates it and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) conducts and manages it; 22 operator sites were live at launch. The minimum age is 18.
Every other province runs a single government-owned online platform (for example BCLC’s PlayNow and Loto-Québec’s EspaceJeux), and the territories have no dedicated regulated platform. Quebec tolerates a large grey market of offshore operators.

A casino bonus is marketing, not free money — its real worth is decided by the small print, not the headline percentage. Casino Capybara compares offers the way a careful player should: by wagering requirement, eligible games, max bet, sticky-or-cashable status, time limit and max cashout. The biggest advertised number is very rarely the best deal.
How we judge a casino bonus
We look past “100% up to €500” to the cost of actually turning it into withdrawable cash. The factors that move a bonus from good to worthless are consistent:
- Wagering requirement — how many times you must bet the bonus (and sometimes the deposit) before cashing out.
- Game weighting — slots usually count 100%, table games far less, so the same 35x can be much harder on blackjack.
- Max bet during play — a per-spin cap that voids winnings if breached, even once.
- Sticky vs non-sticky — whether your own deposit is locked behind the wagering or stays withdrawable.
- Time limit and max cashout — how long you have, and any ceiling on what you can keep.
Every casino we rank has its bonus terms read against these points, and every claim links to the full review so you can check the source.

The capybara rule
Claim a bonus only if you would have played anyway, pick the offer with the fairest terms rather than the biggest number, and never deposit more than your budget to “unlock” a promotion. A small, low-wagering, non-sticky bonus beats a giant sticky one almost every time.

Playing from Alberta? The province runs its own regulated market, so check our sister site, Alberta Gambling Guide, for Alberta-specific operators and rules.
